Pagan Altar – The Time Lord

Releasedate: 13-07-2012; Label: Cruz Del Sur
By: Sabine van Gameren

The UK formation Pagan Altar is band that exists for many years by now. They formed in 1978 but it took them a long time before their debut album came out. In 1998 it was presented to the audience, about 16 years after it was recorded. The next one had to wait till 2004 and in 2006 a third one saw light. Anno 2012 the band presents an EP called “The Time Lord”, which is a re-release.

The band makes doomish Heavy Metal, a bit like Black Sabbath, a very vintage sound. On this EP you can find some of the earliest tracks the band have made, right when it was hot so you can imagine the tracks sound quite pure and raw. The band has interesting melodies going on and leaves us with interesting guitar parts. The old sound is maybe disturbing to some who expected something new, but it brings you back right to where they came from, which truly has its charm. The band is working on a brand new studio release which gives you something to look forward to although the release of this EP does not really hint you what you may expect. Nevertheless it will open the eyes of those had not heard of the band before.
