Ahab – The Giant

Releasedate: 25-05-2012; Label: Napalm Records
By: Sabine van Gameren

Ahab is a German Doom Metal formation. The band recently released their third full length album called: “The Giant” via Napalm Records.

While we recently experienced this band live, the band shows with this release that it one that you really should take a seat for. With time to spend in some extensive listening you truly get the most out of this release. It has a deep, atmospheric moments that you can sink into, let the story that inspired the band come through you. The riffs have a melodic edge, but don’t expect that explosion. Maybe most fun for the technical listener that appreciates the slow tension building. A good vocal side in this sound sets the band on a good way when it comes to getting their words across. They keep your attention long enough and when it all seem to sob off a bit they fight back strictly. Unique is that way that the band plays with the emotion, they have a big bonus point for them here. “The Giant” is an album that you don’t just listen, you have to experience it. If you take the time for it you will feel it completely but don’t expect to have something you listen easily. Stunning, but a bit too restricted maybe.
