Spineshank – Anger Denial Acceptance

Releasedate: 25-06-2012; Label: Century Media
By: Sabine van Gameren

Spineshank is an American alternative metal band. The band has sold over 540,000 records, and has released 4 studio albums. The latest one, “Anger Denial Acceptance” released recently.

That Spineshank is a commercial success doesn’t surprise anyone. It is catchy, the lyrics are easy to pick up and the guitars are often a bit predictable. Commerce does not always stand for bad, because those albums you like to listen and sing along are widely appreciated. On this release these Americans show of they have a bit of moderation in it as well. In some of the tracks the band comes back quite raw, but they create a bit of a contrast with it by having some tracks that are quite flat. Unfortunately those are not the most interesting tracks of this release. Listen to “Murder Suicide” which captures your attention a bit more, right because of the combination of raw and the commercial side that the band has well.
Whether the guys have found what they were after, is questionable. It is a decent record that listens easily, but how much the fans will like it is yet to find out. The guys have brought in some more attitude but stands a bit with one foot on one side and the other still into their old side, making it uncertain of what to expect next.
