Semargl – Satanic Pop Metal

Releasedate: 17-02-2012; Label: Twilight
By: Elvira Visser

Semargl is a band hailing from the Ukraine. Releasing their fourth album and they have chosen a slight different approach to this album. What comes in mind when listening to this band is that you should not expect it to me metal, because of their name of their album. It is better to clasify it as raw growling Industial wiht nice EBM and electric sounds toped with distortion who like to flirt with pop music. On these beats you have the female vocals who are sometimes candy sweet compared with the raw vocals from Rutarp.

This album works best with the volume up, the beats need to bast through your speakers.
However this is not the first band who likes to mix metal, or raw vocals with the Industrial beats. What comes in mind is Turmiön Katilöt, who has the same raw approach. Both of these bands take their music to a next level when being on stage. You just have to see them and get carried away by the music. Close your eyes and let yourself go, completely.

For me this album works best driving in my car or when getting ready for a good (metal) party. It instantly gets you in the right mood. Do not expect a deep epic meaning or complex music structures behind their music. Just put it on and listen to it, or better go see them live and get carried away by their show, because that is good!
