Darkwoods My Betrothed are a black metal band from Kitee, FinlandThe band is formed in 1992 as Virgin Cunt. After recording a couple demos under this name, the band changed their name to Darkwoods My Betrothed. “Heirs of The Northstar” is their debut album, released back in 1995, but called back to life.

Interesting to see this album getting re-released, it has been quiet around these guys for a long time, but when listening to the album you quite get right away why Kvlture Records decided to bring it back. The album has that nostalgia feeling over it. The band creates some very interesting Black Metal moments that may be mentioned as memorable even though in the overall album you may come to the conclusion it is not the most original material around. The riffs in “Uller” for example, it works well Maybe the drive you often find in Post Metal comes in here slightly to drag you into the track. Instrumentally the band showed quite what they are up to, on the vocal side you may be less impressed. These screams should have got a bit more attention back in the days but in the end it is not too disturbing. Tempo changes within the album are often smartly placed bring the tension up a little more. The album closes with a 16-minutes long track existing out of six different parts,a tale of its own.
So yes, good to see an album like “Heirs of The Northstar” is getting a second life. May our treasures of the past stick with us!
