King Giant – Dismal Hollow

Releasedate: 31-01-2012; Label: Graveyard Hill Records
By: Milla Smile

King Giant is doom/groove/stoner metalheads from USA. Since releasing the first album “Southern Darkness” a few year ago, the band mastered the second one not less dark “Dismal Hollow”.

Stoner music is something like dark and depressive mood. You can mention it when hear the first heavy accords and low almost hysteric voice then. The opening track “Appomattox” has all the typical points to be the 100% Southern stoner. There video for the track exists. It’s all about zombie Apocalypse and there are many solutions for the zombies deaths in it. You don’t worry about braindead population if you are far away from USA. The second, “Tale of Mathias”, is the best for my own. Groovy but rocky. “Pistols And Penance” is the track could be named “stoner ballad”. The over seven-minutes song in the melodic and dismal way ended violins’ and acoustic guitar cries. The two catching moments of the entire album is long and wonderful guitar solos and for sure uptown and downtown desert rock arpeggios. The songs are probably lullabies for those who never wake up. For the less than fifty minutes of length, the album proves that stoner is more than powerful music in every minute of playing.
