Cataleptic is a Finnish Death/Doom formation that started in 2003. They did not release a lot of material before, but at the end of 2011 they released their debut full length album “Strenght Within”.
While Europe is experiencing true winter, Cataleptic drops down this disc on our desk. As soon as it starts playing the Doom atmosphere gives you plenty of reasons to stay indoors and feel the darkness entering your body through your ears. It is not that the band brings a whole new sound, but the compositions are strong and the way the drag you along in their long tracks is simply stunning.
The Death part of their sound makes it all a bit deeper and stronger, not having the focus on the melodies alone and give you the idea this is a really manly kind of music.
Worth mentioning are the drums that are pleasantly placed in their mix, more upfront than others might give you but remaining from becoming to dominant. Some good vocals are also there, maybe a little experimenting with vocal styles could be done, but they may leave that up for a future album, the band have made a splendid debut, “Strenght Within” hopefully finds its way to the crowd soon.
