The 11th Hour – Lacrima Mortis

Releasedate: 27-01-2012; Label: Napalm Records
By: Sabine van Gameren

The 11th Hour is the band of Ed Warby. He worked together with Rogga Johansson on this project before and both of them quite regularly come with releases. Now The 11th Hour is back with a new release after 2009’s debut. “Lacrima Mortis” is out now.

As you may remember from the previous release, this band sets melodic Doom down for you, instrumental parts very present and this all accompanied with a quite light, but pleasant voice of Ed Warby. For the grunts we go to another Dutch metal celebrity: Pim Blankenstein of Officium Triste. A combination that works quite well. The songs are all quite strong, maybe not too varied but dragging you along quite well as a good Doom song is supposed to do. In general the songs are thoughtful composed and therefor the album works well as the variation comes within the songs self. The little adds are sometimes surprising, hear some keys in the opening song “We All Die Alone” or right at the end of “Tears Of The Bereaved”. If the darkness had not caught you yet, this is a moment to give in and fall in love with the release.
“Lacrima Mortis” hits you right at the spot. It’s full of emotion and give you over 50 minutes of Doom pleasure. Very recommended, a Dutch product which deserves to be huge!
