17-12-2011 Metalorgy

Venue: Nosturi, Helsinki (Finland)
By: Sabine van Gameren

Another edition of Metalorgy was about to happen and this year it is a little closer to Christmas. Nosturi was filled with Metal loving people to see the event happening.

The evening got opened by the band Rage My Bitch. The band got started in 2008 and got their debut album released this month. What you can expect from them is some melodic Metal with an strong, aggressive backing. Up the front they have two vocalists which makes the sound quite dynamic. This counts for the show of the band as well, they run up and down the stage, jump around and show us a lot of energy. In the start of the set the audience seemed quite tame, but obviously picked up the essence of it at the second part of the set. There were also the songs that were most catchy and have strong compositions. A band that you should follow around to see where they are growing into!

The second band of tonight is one that got quite some fans in the crowd waiting to see them as they have not given any performances for a couple of years. Shade Empire has more aggressive base. The instrumentals are accompanied with quite dominant keys that set the melody down quite dramatically. Then there are quite deep vocals that add a certain darkness to their sound. Right here at Metalorgy it is mainly the character of Juha Harju on vocals that draws attention. He is a man which can put a lot of passion and vehemence into his performance which radiates to the audience quite well. The rest of the band seem to stay behind him on the stage during the performance and let their music do the talking for them.

Fear of Domination had recently released their second full length album “Create.Control.Exterminate” and this brought us to high expectations of tonight’s show. The band is a regular here and have a good party going on every year. For the fans there were plenty surprises to see; from the two screens showing video art to Santa dancing along and Niina Telén stepping away from her keyboard for a while to sing next to Saku Solin, vocalist of the band. Loads of songs of thew album were played and the band actually got a mosh pit going on. Seems like the album reached quite an audience already as the party was truly going on. The Industrial Metallers had a winning show tonight, those who weren’t convinced yet will be now.

Also regular are Turmion Kätilöt. The band has crossed borders this year, meeting us in Berlin at the Suomi Darkness event and went on European tour with Pain, but today they played on familiar soil. On their own ground the band does not need to do a lot to entertain people as their tunes are very danceable in any way and the band has a strong fan base walking around, but that does not mean the guys hold back any energy. Their set list was filled with songs of their latest album “Perstechnique” which got released earlier this year, but as well with their biggest hits from their previous albums like “U.S.C.H” and “Pirun Nyrkki”. All together it was a good show of these Finns that showed to have a good time here at the stage of Nosturi. A good way to end your annual Metalorgy.
