Venue: Tavastia, Helsinki (Finland)

English singer-songwriter Patrick Wolf happened to play in Helsinki right on the 6th of December, the Finnish Independence Day. In the centre of the city, quite some people decided to fill Tavastia for an alternative celebration.
All those who expected a show as wild as the ones Patrick Wolf has got us used to, might have turned out quite surprised buy tonight’s one. He decided to propose all of the songs in completely different arrangements, which at times made it hard to recognise them at all. His musical production presents quite a change in between the earlier and more experimental works and the latest rather pop-oriented ones, but tonight they all come together under the same shape. They all turn out much more acoustic and melancholic at times, and manage to set up a stunning kind of magic in the venue. This also marked out not only Patrick’s vocal skills and ability in shifting from one instrument to the other, but also the one of his band. Somehow, when you find yourself in front of such talented musicians, it would feel kind of a pity to hear the songs just the way they are on the album; so, if the aim was to avoid this, they certainly succeeded. |
Patrick didn’t talk that much to the audience either, which made the music the ultimate protagonist of the evening. All I can say now is that it’s probably in this kind of situations that one truly gets to show how much he/she’s actually worth it as an artist. And Patrick Wolf most definitely is.
