Northern Sadness is a Belgian Dark Electro duo that teamed up in 2010. The guys are now releasing their debut full length album “Riddles of Lunacy”.
Koen de Brabander and Philippe Lefief are the guys behind this project which with this debut show an interesting variation of what they are up to. The album starts of quite strong. Catchiness is all over these songs and immediately brings you a good mood for going clubbing. The guys are coming with a quite modern approach using all different sorts of sounds to make their music be a little different from what is already around. That works quite well and keeps it interesting for a bit longer.. Unfortunately the last part of the album falls a bit into a black hole. Maybe the album is about three songs too long as these last ones are not leaving the same good impression as what the album started with. Probably a bit overenthusiastic on this debut release.
Overall the guys have made a nice debut album that shows they are up for variable things and are up to date with their sound, not sticking with the confidential sound that has been there all the time and a little experimenting never hurts so that is definitely a plus. Now they need to temper this enthusiasm a little because it is such a pity the nice album ends with a bit bitter taste.
