Descending – New Death Celebrity

Descending is a Greek band formed in 2007. Their first album “Enter Annihilation” was out in 2008. There are still not much infos on this band on the web. All we know is that we have here the guitarist Constantine, who plays in Mystic Prophecy (since 2008) and Nightfall (since 2011). He has also created the eponym band Constantine last year.

“Enter Annihilation” was a great album, so it’s with high hopes that I listened to this one. First surprise, “New Death Celebrity” lacks all these melodic parts; if you remember the beautiful piano intro on Descending. The new album imposes itself as trash. The singing is aggressive, violent but stays clear most of the time. You will still find the appropriated screams but all is arranged on choirs to give more punch. The guitars are powerful and offer a wide range of variations. The solo on Shared Planet is an example of Constantine’s talent. The weakest point, I think, is the drums. The sound is repetitive and sometime breaks the structure of the song. The first title, Path to Healing, is softer and makes a perfect intro. Each song has a recognizable tune. Suicide Promise is one of the most developed song with How Much Life Weights ? It’s clear that everyone gives all his energy here. The intro of Ghost of Nation Past will sound a bit weird to you at first but I leave you the surprise.
I don’t usually listen to trash metal but I think this album is really pleasant. I needed a few listenings to get all the subtleties because you are blast away by the power of all this at first. “New Death Celebrity” is not as good as their first album but it will rejoice all the fans of the genre.
