An eclectic band rooted in the creative soils of Montreal, Canada. Unexpect is a metal laboratory mixing elements of black/death/symphonic/melodic metal; progressive, classical, electro, folk, jazz, operatic, mathcore, ambient, noise, circus music and anything else crossing their minds. The collective includes a violin, keyboards/sampling, a singing contemporary dancer, a nine stringed bass, two guitarists that also singer and a drummer. The vocal performance of the two singers range from an extreme to the other as they alternate between glorious choirs; inhuman screams of deep, high, mid-growl and delirious intensity; theatrical narrations; and clean sections strewn with a female singer who’s angelic voice could melt the will of the most vile politician.
With this instrumental array and these vocal styles you can expect a lot. Unexpect is trying to meet these expectations with their new and third full length album “Fables Of The Sleepless Empire”. They mix elements and styles, growl metal like and sing theatrical throughout all eleven songs. Maybe they mix a little too much instead of focusing on the music itself. Constant rhythm changes, lots of 80s metal riffs, opera styles and parts of metal, all in one. Unexpected indeed. “Fables Of The Sleepless Empire” is the new album of Unexpect. Fans will love it. “Fables Of The Sleepless Empire” is a musical challenge. Get it if you feel ready for it. The new Unexpect album is out now. Enjoy.
