The Belgian formation Hermitage makes music in Dutch. Their sound can be seen as a combination of singer/songwriter, art, poetry and pop music. Their album “Schaduwliefde” is out now.
Hermitage has been together since 2005 and this trio released some smaller releases before, now their debut album is here it seem to go quite well with the guys. The artistic side of their sound brings you into surprising lyrics with the backup of instruments like piano, guitar and cello. That last one especially makes the atmosphere a bit moody sometimes, which suits with the autumn weather. Obviously this album is one that will mainly be interesting for those who understand Dutch, just the music is probably not enough to get the point of it all. Also, when they read a poem as one of their tracks I felt a bit lost. If that comes due a personal hate against that ‘Look… I… Can… Read… A… Poem…’ way of bringing it or something else is hard to say, but it comes down on me as and ice cold shower after listening the previous tracks that certainly had more atmosphere. There is one more track after it and I really have to stop myself from not press stop, because it completely ruined the fun of listening it. Tip: Listen to the first nine tracks and then stop. More than enough!
