Cruiserweight – Big Bold Letters

Releasedate: 14-08-2008; Label: Siren Records
By: Sabine van Gameren

The American band Cruiserweight released their album “Big Bold Letters”. It is their third full length album.

The band is not new to Europe, they have been touring in Europe with Dashboard Confessional and others. Musicwise, the band makes pop rock with punk influences. To be short: Avril Lavigne, Miley Cyrus and any other teenage punk rock with female vocals you can name.
The album starts with some songs which are quite light. Repeating the same lyrics a couple of times, while they do not bring too much depth either. Simple riffs, drums not too interesting drum work. As in catchiness it probably has a bigger hit. Chart material, yes for sure. Will the cd still be played after a year? Probably not. I can imagine their audience is quite young and they really have the potential to be a teenage super hero band.

So far, my age is higher than their typical fan, so for me I feel like putting of my stereo off, since too much of those simple sounds and a voice that gives me a headache, should not be on. I felt not fair for the sake of this review so I kept on listening. The last couple of songs on the album are somehow less punk and therefore better to stand.
Every target group has its own striking bands, but some bands fit in more. I would say if you are older than 15. Walk further when you see this cd. Even if you like this sort of music, there are better ones in the genre.
