Releasedate: 05-08-2011; Label: Massacre Records
By: Sabine van Gameren
Solitude Aeturnus is a band that formed in 1987. They got known for making epic Doom Metal and released six studio full length albums. The last one dates back to 2006 and since then only a DVD and a live album got released. Anno 2011 the band comes with a compilation album, holding demo tracks from the past, their very earliest material out of 1988.
The material is re-mastered, but obviously that 1988 feeling is still in it. The material is quite raw and what stands out is the epic, the drama and the feelings that are in it. Interesting to see in this release are the songs that did not make it to the album back then, sounding quite strong and therefor they are true treasures on this release. For fans this a release that may not miss out in the collection, but for people who are not that strongly attached (yet) it may make more sense to wait if the guys feel like making an album with new material. Since the album “Alone” out of 2006, not too much has happened and that is quite a pity. The band got a reputation and it feels like they just put it all on hold for now. Hopefully this release is not one of the last ones.
