Sourvein – Black Fangs

Releasedate: 18-07-2011; Label: Candlelight Records
By: Sabine van Gameren

Sourvein is an American band that makes Sludge/Doom Metal. The band formed in 1993 and have released a lot of small releases since. In 2011 the band also came with new full length release called: “Black Fangs”. It is their third full length since they started.

Good, their latest album was from 2002 so it was about time that they would come with a new full length. “Black Fangs” is an album that is quite raw and is not so easy to catch. Some of the parts are going on quite long on the same concept and therefore it might be a challenge to keep your attention with it. Luckily the band plays around with some variation as well and when you least expect it the music changes into something different. What is a bit of a pity is that in some parts the vocals are almost hidden between the wall of guitar and bass leaving it as an unimportant part in the music, but at some points you are really dragged into the sound to find out what these vocals are all about. A little bit of teasing without giving in at all.
“Black Fangs” is a nice release that needs some time before it captures your heart. Be willing to take that time, because it is worth it!
