Battle Dagorath is an ambient Black Metal formation from America. They formed in 2002 and in 2008 the band came with their debut album. Anno 2011 it is time to release a second full length: “Ancient Wraith”.
“Ancient Wraith” is that typical cold Black Metal, inspired by winter. Screeching vocals come in fast enough, but are not really a highlight in this release. They seemed a bit unstructured and not always as well placed in the music as it could have been. Musically, it is quite simple, drums are quite standard and the riffing does not give a lot of challenge either. Maybe a bit more complexity in here would have lifted the music up a little. What does work for Battle Dagorath are the Ambient parts that are in the music. Although also here counts that a little more variation and excitement could have done a lot for the band. In a song like “Ancient Spectre of Oblivion” there is the perfect example of net having enough tension building going on to keep listening it for a longer time.
So maybe a bit more playing around will make the album more exciting, for now it does not stand out over the average.
