DÅÅTH – DÅÅTH

Releasedate: 18-10-2010; Label: Century Media
By: Sabine van Gameren

The Atlanta based quintet Daath delivered their third album a couple of months ago. However the band has a status among metal fans, their music stays fairly underground. Maybe that is because their music can not be compared to any other band, they have their own unique style. Some say their music is plain and simple extreme metal, but those forget to note that their music has fresh ideas and their own twists. This self-titled full-lenght album, appeared about a year and a half after their previous album “The Concealers”. This self-titled album was produced by Mark Lewis (Devildriver and Trivium).

Daath has shared the stage with Dragonforce, Chimaira and Unearth and performed recently on the With Full Force festival in 2010. Ever since then the band has even more created their own style. With their sound they want to bring the metal scene something different. The band is one of those aggressive metal bands, but one that is not afraid to use plenty of turns and twists when talking about tempos. On the albums there is a Daath sound but they all differ from each other, to keep things fresh and show the development of the musicians. Daath’s album is for sure diverse: for example on the track “Double Tap Suicide” you can hear some real anger, while a track like “Oxygen Burn” is more focused on the solo’s and creating a more atmospheric feel to the track. The track “Indestructible Overdose” starts with an organ intro, which is quite unexpected. The Track “Arch {Enemy} Misanthrope” has quite some layering and even a electro tune.
Daath delivered a great album, but the album might needs a few spins to be appreciated.
