Anna von Hausswolff is a Swedish songwriter from Gothenburg. In 2009 she released an EP but anno 2010 her debut full length album “Singing From The Grave” sees light.
A lot of dark depressive piano comes with the album, right from the start. Hearing the high vocals of Anna coming in remind me instantly to Kate Bush. That Anna has her own style is something you discover soon enough, but that very first moments brought up this thought. Anna stays in one line with her songs, all being in the same calm, serene atmosphere. Never the less this nine track counting album does not bore at all. Gorgeous vocals with a perfect back up from piano extend each other’s intensity and strengthen the meaning of the words. In the songs there is a good structure, take the time to build up tension and atmosphere letting the emotions come out closely before the climax arrives.
“Singing From The Grave” is an album that hits many hearts, touches your emotional palette and makes you feel secure enough to let you express your feelings in your way, as Anna let herself go to. A confidential feeling in a gorgeous musical environment. This album is awesome, a must have! One of the 2010 toppers for sure!
