Debut of French shamanic electro duet Eihwar was in 2023. Viking War Trance is the second attempt to cover up the band’s material. The album’s release schedules by 20th of September 2024.
If you’ve never heard of Viking war trance as a music genre, then here the chance to taste it. In fact, it’s compilation of any kind of neo-folk with heavy odor of shamanism. Face the truth, after “Vikings” show hit top of popularity, there were many attempts of rethinking Vikings story, especially its mythology. I don’t even mention Marvel’s Asgard interpretation.
Heading to the present album, we have nine tracks stitching several legends of Scandinavian epos. Mostly known “Ragnarök” and “Berserkr” remastered for this album. Shamanic drums and crying, that formula fits for any track. Maybe with one exception, the last track is Swedish ballad of non-shareable love between troll and human being “Sir Mannelig”. My favorite is “Baldr”, who, according to Edda, was poisoned by Loki but treated as rebirthed god, which associated with spring season. So, here touch of joy and hope at least.
Perhaps, Viking War Trance is not as original as music genre but definitely solid as LP. If you need some meditative tracks, you’re on the right but strange way.
