Eisregen – Schlangensonne

Releasedate: 30-04-2010; Label: Massacre Records
By: Sabine van Gameren

The German band Eisregen has been around since 1995. “Schlangensonne is their 8th studioalbum.

These Dark metallers from Germany are known for their tendency to go extreme into their lyrics. To be honest, the band did not really succeed in shocking me. More like a sort of humor the band wishes to share, but got horribly understood wrong by diverse media. Shit happens. The band is not exactly the most brilliant group out there, but some good points are to mention as well. The band is somehow hanging in between different genres. Dark Metal is an easy name for it, but an attempt to include Black Metal can’t be denied. Did the succeeded? Well depends on their initial meaning with it, but bringing some cold atmosphere in it, yes that succeeded. The band also has a extensive use of keyboards in the music which makes it all a bit mellow. What the band tries to achieve with it is not clear, the band does not make a solid statement where it want to go with their sound. This leads to confusion, feeling the need to put the album aside. What a shame. Could be much better when they made up their mind.
