Deleyaman – The Lover The Stars & The Citadel

Deleyaman is a duo,Aret Madilian and Beatrice Valantin. They have been active for quite some years and are now ready for the release of album number seven. “The Lover The Stars & The Citadel”.

This album has quite some diversity in it, but one thing that comes around is that the mood is often a bit melancholic. One darker than the other but certainly all referring to certain feeling of melancholy. Some songs are in French, brought by Beatrice in a warm and direct way. Male vocals are reminding slightly to the Finnish Ville Valo. She sure knows how to tell a story and then there are also a couple of songs in this album that seem to be inspired by the British band Joy Division. The way of composing, but also the vocals. Interesting to see this reference turn out in an album like this, they bend it beautifully to their own thing and that is something not everyone does this as gracefully as this duo. The use of instruments is a wide range, but it never feels they have chosen it just for the sake of having something odd in there, it is there because it suits and is an addition to the sound.

“The Lover The Stars & The Citadel” is a smart and well thought release. It captures some things from the past and somethings from the now and have been made into something that defines Deleyaman, it shows what these people can do and it resulted in an album that listens so easily, that you will enjoy this for a long time.
