Astral Tide is a formation based in Berlin, Germany that creates a blend of Post-Punk, Shoegaze, Noise Rock, Metal and Wave as they inform us. This year they release an album called “How Far , Are You Out There?”.
It is not an easy ride, listening to this release. It is indeed a blend of diverse styles with the intention to create a dreamy soundscape that captivates you and takes you deep into the sound. Yet this did not came out completely as you need to really listen with a lot of care to get there. It requires time and effort, but once you get there you will get an immense scene to explore. The band has built interesting moments of intensity after which they just as effortless take you to a calmer moment, a doomy sound, but never that dark and sinister in its obvious forms. All instrumental parts are leading and the vocals are dramatizing the whole a bit.
Whether it is the somewhat foggy production may be hard to say but the whole sounds like it possibly comes alive more when you see it in front of it, being a close part of it in a small club or bar rather than the album itself. It sounds like this is an album you buy after having it seen live and not the other way around.
