Poseydon – Masterpiece

Poseydon is a Belgian Death/Thrash formation that has some years on the counter. Formed in 1992 they had been going by releasing only a demo before going down. Yet a bunch of years later it got revived again and in 2011 a first release came to the world. Taking their time to write new material it is now, anno 2016, time for a new album which is called “Masterpiece”

Naming your album “Masterpiece” is a ballsy statement but in our info a subtitle ‘( In The Mind Of A Serial Killer)’ follows. The music we get to hear from them is having that upright cheeky non-bullshit attitude in there as well. If you look at the Death/Thrash combination it is hard to say which side they are leaning more to, vocals are more Death Metal stereotypically, but the music drags it more to Thrash. Throughout the album it pushes you a bit back and forth as if the band does not really want to decide. Does not matter that much, the songs self are well thought. But yet here and there it breaks the unity of the album a bit. Variation is nice, but it feels a bit like you want to sort the track list differently so that you come up to two different sides of them that are embracing each other but still keep a bit of space in between them.
Something that can be addressed again for a future release. The guys are capable of bring us quality songs, that they do prove with the release but making it all come together is the next step to make.
