28-05-2016 Amsterdam Metalnight

Amsterdam Metalnight is a night that brings us the best of Dutch Metal presented in the capital, a city that lacks a proper place for Metalbands to present themselves to a bit larger audience than to be found in a bar.

- Amsterdam MetalfestThe first band we get to see is Disquiet. The band makes Melodic Thrash Metal and plays together since 2008. What we get to see from them this night is an energetic show that stands out due the two guitarists who entertain us with some tight riffs that take the spotlights easily. But that being said, the band makes it fit in with their whole sound and not let them take the shine for the whole time. In well thought songs the band has no problems to bring out the best of them in those moments they are all united just as well.

Recently the band released a new album called “The Condemnation” and of course they played some of that. An interesting one to start the evening with.

- Amsterdam MetalfestDistillator we already saw a while ago as the support for WASP, which was maybe not the best night of them as quite some problems were torturing them and the audience. We were hoping to see the band make up for that this night and they surely did a better show than what we saw in Eindhoven that day. The old-school Thrashers didn’t go flawless, but hey we actually got into the flow now and seen the quality that the band has.

Their performance is a bit hectic, running back and forth on the stage, which may sometimes distract you from the sound though.
Good comeback from them, a show that energized many!

- Amsterdam MetalfestMagnacult is a band that was on our wishlist for a long time. They never had a lot of releases but music there is plenty of and the guys are showing us it was worth waiting for. A solid stage presence is there, the band has no problems with playing the crowd and their charismatic frontman is making everyone feel he is addressing you personally. At some moments a mosh pit broke loose and the audience was showing their appreciation for the guys, but in general, just as the rest of the evening, the people responded quite calm.
The songs the band played are interestingly building on some tension which makes that you get sucked into the show the band has giving, we could safely say it was THE show of the evening.

- Amsterdam MetalfestIzegrim is a welcome guest at any festival and despite their 20 years existence, the band seems quite unfamiliar with playing in Amsterdam, which shows exactly the need of events like this. Earlier this year the Death/Thrash formation has released the album “The Ferryman’s End” of which they played some music, but the band also played some Izegrim classics that the long-time fans appreciate.

The band had also a tame audience, but one that appreciates them. And the strength of this band lays mainly in the fact that they put down some tight songs for the audience and leave that do its work and make that impression, not any show elements are needed to dress it up, it is straightforward Thrash that comes at an high level, many years of being around made Izegrim a band that never bores us.

This Amsterdam Metalnight is a good way of showcasing the bands we have in Netherlands. It has some bigger names combined with upcoming talent, ready to rise internationally and Amsterdam is a good place to bring it. Later in2016 there will be an Amsterdam Metalfest, of which the first names have been made public. Keep October 15th blocked in your agenda!
