Haken is a British Prog Rock formation. They are releasing album number four at the moment. It is called “Affinity” and it is available now.
As a band the guys have embraced the sound of Prog in combination with a catchy sound embraced into it. They are quite accessible and therefor will reach a wide audience. We see Leprous being successful with this sound for quite some years now and Haken got their own out of that, being less Metal, more Rock. Easily the switch between calm moments where the vocals are introducing you into their sound and let the instrumentals built up tension to come to an highlight an outburst of energetic and powerful parts where guitars are laying some heaviness into it. The tempo goes up and even though a break may be back later in a track the band is playing with it on an intelligent level. They know when to end and they know when they can tease a little more. A fine line that they skilfully find and use.
“Affinity” is an album that shows a skilful band that will apply to a wide range of audience. Their music is not too comprehensively built that it will lock out the ones who look for an easy listening, but has enough into them to keep one listening and be entertained and amazed by what they bring.
