[schema type=”review” name=”Svarttjern – Dødsskrik” description=”Label: Soulseller Records” author=”Sabine van Gameren” pubdate=”2016-04-29″ ]Svarttjern is a Norwegian Black Metal formation that founded in 2003. A debut album came out in 2009 and anno 2016 the band is releasing album number four: “Dødsskrik”
“Dødsskrik” is a release that gives us a quite predictable sound. Traditional metal. ‘True Norwegian Metal’ as they say it. The band does not really have a sound that will bring you something new under the sun when it comes to that.
The songs on the album are brought with a passionate feel on it. Filthy Black Metal that has quite some tempo, but not much variation in that, they go on and on in the same way. The sound is balanced and well produced. They don’t bring a too shiny sound but kept it with just enough to have it sound like a 2016 album with all the flair of the traditional elements coming out well. In most songs they have the vocals as a bit of star next to the instrumental violence they bring, but there are moments that they seem a bit sloppy, mainly when a bit cleaner sound comes into it in “Admiring Death”. An addition they could have left out.
Before you know it you are through the album. The band brings a decent quality and seems quite sure of what they want, they never step too far from what they are doing. A safe buy for those who have liked the band’s previous releases and prefer their Black collection to be without too much exploring into other genres.
