Krater is a black metal band from Germany. Formed in 2004, the band describes their style as ‘furious black metal’. They have 7 releases so far (EP/demo/album) with the 7th one being the latest record “Urere”.
From the ritual-like beginning until the breathtaking(I mean it!) tempo of the album, “Urere” will catch your attention from the first moment. The band delivers the more brutal and technical side of black metal for sure; each song carries a unique pattern of brutality blended with technical aspects of the band’s sound. The songs are somehow dystopic, definitely dark and not atmospheric at all. There are definitely some ‘transition’ moments but there is no hesitation and this is one of the many reasons to appreciate this record! On the technical side, the e-guitars are more in the spotlight but what captivated me are the vocals.
Soundwise, apart from black metal, the band delivers elements from death metal and even post-metal. You might raise your eyebrows to this but I actually liked this aspect in the record; surely this is black metal to the bone but the band is not afraid to extend their limits to blend these different genres and to bring us the their own interpretation of BM. I personally would have loved to see more raw-ness in the record although I cannot complain about the production.
Get ready for 45 minutes of darkness and brutality… Definitely recommended to the fans of black/death metal!
