Lightning is a Power Metal formation from Japan. A couple of year ago they brought their music to the European market and so their first three albums got re-released. This year the band come with a new album called “Road To Ninja”, which is a compilation.
The band says to be influenced much by acts like Helloween and Gamma Ray. These you can clearly hear back into the band’s music. The compositions are surely alike, but what speaks for this band is the strong guitarists that can make the song their own as well. There is enough from themselves in there to set them apart from their influences. The vocals are an interesting add on it as well. Just a bit more raw than you would expect, strengthening their own identity. The lyrics are not always easy to follow but perhaps that is a language thing. Something they can work on.
“Road To Ninja” is an album that as itself is not inventing anything new, but with the little details being made their own the guys have successfully transformed it into a sound that sets themselves apart even though it is not radically different. An interesting release for the Power Metal fan.
