The SixxiS – Follow Shrine

Releasedate: 12-09-2014; Label: Glassville Records
By: Sabine van Gameren

Prog rockers The SixxiS started in 2006. Eight years later they are touring Europe with Spock’s Beard and are they releasing the album “Follow Shrine”.

All members of the band have a different background and the question is always if it blends in nicely, but The SixxiS seem to have mastered this quite fast. By now you can hear that these different influences make the band a bit more unique and diverse, which sets them apart from a lot of others. Here and there they have a commercial edge, think Muse, but for a moment later they can jump into a different direction just as well.
What must be said is that altogether it can come across as a bit soft. Slow parts. Dreamy, soft vocals… in a way you simply hope for that little fire to come alive but it never really breaks out a lot. So for some people the album might be a bit too boring for that cause. You sometimes would expect them to hint a bit more to the 70’s sound but it does not come out that much either.
Concluding this you could say that the album is diverse, but lacks a little in power. Would they take it up just a little more they would keep the listener along throughout the whole tracklist. Now they are risking losing a whole bunch on the way.
