Siiiii is a band that has a long existence. The band is now reflecting to their early years with the release “Ancient” which shows their gothic/postpunk sound.
The release got also out in 2006 functioning as the band’s debut full length back then and anno 2012 the album get re-released. Good, you must know that Siiiii is not giving you an album that listens easily, for the music being deep, but also for the fact that it seems a bit like a collection of such random recordings that you may find it hard to find the connection between the tracks. Then, when listening it some more times you start to feel the beauty of the quite raw material as it is and make you get into it. The drums pounding into the sound, quite upfront and that really puts a heavy charm on it. Clearly, the guys are finding themselves very comfortable in the deepest sounds maybe only essentially highlighted by the vocals when needed.
An interesting release, not an easy one to fall in love with but for those who like this genre it is a true must to give the album a try. With a new album in planning I’m curious what the guys bring next.
Line up:
Paul Devine – vocals
Angie Holmes – bass
Mark Holmes – guitar
Wayne Furniss – drums
