Channel East is a German synth pop band formed in 2005 by Toni Tzschoppe und David Herzig. Since then, they released three studio albums; “Window to Earth” is their latest.
“Window to Earth” comes forward with quite a popish sound in the air, flavoured with lots of synth and electronic elements. What is evident from the first couple of songs already, is that the band chooses to keep its distance from any kind of experimentalism, rather picking tones that might sound pretty familiar to your ears. Not a very successful formula in the end, since what comes out of that is a mixture of over-cheerful melodies and random clichés that truly risk to turn out mawkish at times. It all just rolls up on itself, without allowing the listener to find any highlight, or any absence of repetition at all. Though the album doesn’t need too many listening’s to be fully figured out, it might be one pretty good pick out of your choice list if you want something pretty light to spice the day and keep the mood up.
If this is the sight from Channel East’s “Window to Earth”, we might be able to draw some conclusions from that: since they go through quite some melancholic lyrics, reversing them into cheerful melodies, they might just want to spread some kind of optimistic point of view. Nobel try, we must admit that, but maybe not so successful as expected.
