Atlas & Axis is a Heavy Metal formation from Switzerland. The band formed in 2009 and two years later they came with a debut album. Anno 2014 they are back with a new full length album called “Confrontation”.
The band starts the album quite direct. No intro, straight to the point. The songs are built around some vicious riffs and the vocals of singer Jonas. He knows how to bring diversity with them, changing the pitch often and he does not seem to hold back from experimenting with different styles. A good point, as the diversity is needed to stick with it. Looking at the tracklist the songs are a bit too much alike. They perhaps could take one element to work out deeper within a track and leave another element for another track rather than come with eleven tracks that have a little of all it, creating template that returns a bit too often. But when looking into what’s given you can hear a lot of potential of this band. Everything is thought of, you can hear that but perhaps the overview of it all got lost. With all the different styles Jonas throws in there is enough diversity for him to come up with something that embraces his quality. Sometimes less is more and with a critical selection I am sure the guys can bring that album that everyone sees as a classic in their discography and perhaps even genre.
