Chickpeace is a band from Switzerland. They make a combination of Pop, Rock, Funk and Blues. They have been around since 2008 and released their debut full length album “To The Point” in 2012. About two years later the band returns with the release of the EP “Tide & Pride” which is out now.
An EP this time. We get presented three tracks all in their calm and relaxed way that we got to know them from. The first track “Suddenly” is calm pop song that with a bit luck would be up in the charts. It has the lyrics and the vibes for it, a bit sad song that gives it a twist to a bit more positive side. It misses just a little strength to really break out though.
“Tacky Town” is a track that is more Funky but lyrically tends more to the Blues side. A track you listen to rather than it will cheer you up, it’s about the story and has some sarcasm included. The EP closes with the song “Switch Back” which has a bit questionable vocal moments, not the prettiest but when the tempo goes up you start to get some hope back. It could have been really catchy but never comes to the point that it really sticks in mind.
Three songs on this EP and all are surrounded by some dark aura as it seems. It is into the direction of something that could be working great but ends a stop to early, the band should think a little bigger, maybe some more arrangements and it could be really lovely. “Tide & Pride” got perhaps released to early, some more development would have been better and make this stand out so much more.
