Diary of Dreams is a German dark wave band. The lead singer and founding member Adrian Hates has produced most of the albums by himself or with minimal help from others. He rarely uses a full band, except when he is on tour. “Elegies in Darkness” is their eleventh full length studio album.
The new album comes with twelve songs on the regular edition. The special edition brings three extra songs. As we know it from Diary of Dreams, the songs’ lyrics are German and English, sometimes even mixed in one song. The sound of the songs as well as the atmosphere this album creates is dark and gloomy, sometimes even creepy. The dark voice of the singer adds the final touch to complete the feeling. Sometimes Adrian, the singer, uses his voice to spread a feeling of hope. As if the sound of his voice is the last shimmer of light while all darkness in the world surrounds you. All songs on “Elegies in Darkness” are extremely catchy and pull you along. The lyrics go deep as they are very serious and pure. Creating emotions that are not only carried by the melodies but also supported and transported by the vocals, main as well as backing vocals.
Diary of Dreams chose some beautiful arrangements to create this album. A brilliant piece of art with every detail thought through entirely to fit in with the rest and create a whole new world to introduce to you. “Elegies in Darkness” is a must check out for all fans of art and good music. So go give it a listen.
