Releasedate: 10-02-2014; Label: Doomentia
By: Sabine van Gameren
From Doomentia Records we get to listen to the band Barbarian, an Italian formation that combines Speed/Thrash with Black Metal. The band formed in 2009 and only two years after that their debut came out. This year a follow up is presented to the world, “Faith Extinguisher” is out now.
As they say, this release is 666% pure Barbarian. What to expect from that is perhaps a bit of a mystery if you have not heard them before. What is sure is that the guys intend to rebel. At least if you read what is said in the info sheet. ‘Barbarian could have easily carried on raping Celtic Frost’s vintage heritage without anyone complaining’ and yes indeed a reference that makes good sense. They further speak of ‘kick in the face of the non-believers’, a sentence that easily sets you with some expectations.
The band includes a strong instrumental part, the drums are quite upfront giving it that sturdy body and with the riffs you can make sure to be entertained for a while. Good perhaps you hear some inspiration coming from others here and there, but with a mouth full of sharp words the whole gets a sharp attitude, the band profiles them like that. So indeed the Celtic Frost fans will have their likings with this release as well as those enjoying bands like Sodom and Venom.
