Supports: Lushus; Venue: ACU, Utrecht (Netherlands)

Pollination was back with a new event. In ACU, Utrecht (Netherlands) the bands Lushus and Aedi were on the bill.

The locals of Lushus are first. The trio is coming from The Netherlands but they decided to start the set with a song in German. Some other songs are in English which brings in the variation. This variation is not really coming from the set itself as the tracks sound alike. Maybe as if the band has one or two templates on which they are all made. What also does not help is that the lyrics are not giving you the idea some variance comes with their tracks. While for example one song’s lyrics are simply: ‘[fill in a word] nicht’ and then put that all next to each other and that is placed close to a song in the set list that has a lot of: ‘[fill in a word] me’ it may become a bit too much alike. It was waiting for the end to hear a different sort of song.

As a more positive point to mention you could see the presentation of their show, the performance self was entertaining and the visual aspect helped the band as well, but perhaps they need to review their set list for next time. Not every audience will stick around that long to see if something different will be presented eventually.

The Italian Indie formation Aedi is here in the Netherlands to give the Dutch a fine lesson on how to perform a gig. The band does not let any time go to waste and after a calm intro the energy is flowing around you. You can’t really help feeling this energy take you over and sooner than later the band has got you hooked. The Italians do well with that as they easily embrace their audience to play along with them. This adds another dynamic to the show as it is not only happening in front of you, but also behind you, around you and everywhere.

From the powerful song “Rabbit On The Road” to tracks that are more calm, almost a bit sinister when the shivers go down your spine. It’s easy to point the finger to vocalist Celeste for the great success of the band, but it is really the combination of it all that strengthen the sound to what it is. Not really one instrument is dominating at all, and when the band gives their fullest passion the element of the audience is there as another member of the band. Aedi performed an inspiring show here in ACU; young, wild, and free.
