Eyefear – The Inception of Darkness

Releasedate: 07-12-2012; Label: Rockstar Records/Limb Music
By: Sabine van Gameren

Australian Power Metal formation Eyefear has been active since 1994. With these yours behind them they brought now 5 albums out. The last one came recently and is called: “The Inception of Darkness”.

The album kicks in strong, it has an extended instrumental section which may expect from a Power Metal, yet it has a bit of a struggle to come upfront at some points. Maybe kept in the back to give more space to vocals, but that causes a bit of imbalance in the songs which is a shame. The vocals simply work. Danny Cecati is the man that stands behind them and he brings quite some strength to it all. Yet it must be said that the album is not always bringing enough variety . Halfway the track list you might wonder how much is still to come as the songs tend to be a bit alike. As a bonus the band adds some orchestral version on this release and those are surely a gift. Those are pleasant to listen to and lift the album up, so they did right of choosing to include these.
Overall, “The Inception of Darkness” is not a bad album, it may just give you the idea the band did not get the maximum out of themselves yet. Perhaps a next album will do.
