Majestic Downfall – Temple of Guilt

Releasedate: 06-04-2009; Label: My Kingdom Music
By: Sabine van Gameren

Majestic Downfall is a doom metal project by Jacobo Córdova. He is coming from Mexico and under this name he released a demo in 2007 and a split cd in 2008. Now it is time for a full length album and it carries the name “ Temple of Guilty.

Jacobo has been playing doom metal in a band named, Antiqua and you might have read his name also in our review of the Ticket to Hell album. With Majestic Downfall he seemed to take that traditional dark sound in advance and brought it in this project. He also took some influences from modern doom metal acts and mixed this up to achieve his own sound. The riffs in this music are original but even though there are some points of reference hear able. My Dying Bride from a couple years back, Anathema that sort of music.
I found the vocals quite pleasant as well but with the overall sound they tend to get a bit to the back ground. The production of this album is not the best I have heard. It sounds like it is recorded live, although you know it is impossible since Jacobo provided bass a guitars next to his voice.
It is such a pity, since I am quite positive about the music, but this makes the album turn out less then it could have been. In five songs and 55 minutes Majestic Downfall made its point and made me interested in what is going on.
