Dark Roses made its first appearance on Tempelores a bit more than a year ago, during the semifinals of Emergenza festival. Now, a year and some more performances later, the band released their EP “Pleasure and Pain”
With influences of Cryptopsy, Meshuggah and Pantera the band from Rotterdam, Netherlands has a steady base to get back to. The EP contains four songs which are quite in one line. The bands has eclectic riffs in their songs which come forward best in the third song “Blind” which must be seen as the highlight of the EP. Drums in this EP are well done, but I miss a bit of the aggression and energy in it which is there when you this band playing live. Vocal wise I would say the band kept it quite straight, not too much experimenting which is keeping all the songs in one line. Perfect for an EP, may turn into a point of discussion if the band would release a full-length.
The production of this album has darkness over it, underground, take that quite literally. Made me think of the very first Sentenced releases, as they tend to be quite raw.
“Pleasure and Pain” is there for those who like to collect these more underground metal bands from the beginning. Be there before the commerce strikes.
