Immortal Remains – Everlasting Night

Releasedate: 06-04-2009; Label: My Kingdom Music
By: Sabine van Gameren

Immortal Remains is a German band that got described as “Dramatic Black Metal” They formed in 2000 and after a couple of promotional releases they released their album “Everlasting Night”

The band claims their influences at names like Katatonia, Forgetten Tomb and Cradle of Filth. The dramatic element in their music is mostly brought by the more peaceful parts as a change to their black metal raging. It is not hard to find where they have placed the influences in their music. The vocals attempt to get close to what Cradle of Filth is producing, but the band did not go to the limit, which I kindly thank them for.
Guitars come quite raw on the plate. A sharp edge but still kept in hand. The band never let one element step forward more. I hoped for that at some songs though. Why not let that riff get a bit more domination, to challenge the rest to keep up with that after wards. Give everyone an own space instead off the communistic way of playing.
Furthermore, the band promotes their dramatic side a lot but somehow it comes a bit like a teenage drama. Making a big issue out something small.
I think this band is more a band I would like to see live than listen to their album. They probably impress me more with that.
