The American formation Jolly is on a European tour. With them, they brought the band Ill. Tonight playing in Patronaat, Haarlem (Netherlands).

Ill is alternative trio that showed themselves from a various side. Starting off quite poppy, some electro elements to make it all sweet. It does not seem to be their audience and taking off a shirt did not really have the teenage wow effect as they seemed to have hoped for. But then things changed. Some more aggression came into their set. The power that came into it gave a refreshing touch to their performance.

About a year ago Jolly released their album “The Audio Guide To Happiness (Part 1)”. Their show started right with the reference to the album and while the audience responded slowly the band did not hesitate to bring their strengths from the start. No holding back, straight in the face. Some moments of peace are brought in when a song like “Storytime” is played, coming from their latest record. But the band also played some older tracks, “Carrousel of Whale” jumps out coming from the album “Forty-Six Minutes, Twelve Seconds of Music”. The band brings very passionate moments come alive, letting intensity make its impression and take their time to build towards climaxes. The audience is captivated by the whole happening and observes it peacefully giving the band a huge applause at the end of their set. This is absolutely an act that comes alive very well on the stage, a little odd somehow which makes it even more interesting
