19-04-2012 Red Fang

Supports: Black Tusk, Christian Mistress, Fehler; Venue: Doornroosje
By: Sabine van Gameren

Four bands in the crowded Doornroosje. Red Fang, Black Tusk and Christian Mistress are on the road together . It was the Dutch band Fehler that opened the evening.

It was not really a performance that captured the interest of people that have not seen them before, the Dutch Fehler is lacking power at some points so it did not really hit the audience as much as it could have done. The band has just released and it is to say that they are usually with four, but this night there were only three of them on stage. That explains the lack of power perhaps. It was not bad, but you are left with the feeling you did not get all of it either.

The band Christian Mistress is maybe a bit of a black sheep in between these bands, but surely one we were looking forward considering the fact that their last release “Possession” was very pleasant. Their front woman has a raw voice but here on stage it takes some effort to get over the sound of the guitars and the drums. Simply fixed in a few songs the band continues with their Hard Rock sound at full speed. Guitar solo’s are there but the band doesn’t go for a cheesy show. It is the music that speaks most for them and that is one aspect that seemed to be appreciated this night.

Black Tusk is madness. Filthy energy flawing into the venue straight from the start. Sometimes it seems like the guys are battling each other on the stage. This with a huge grin on their faces, cause the band is not only entertaining the audience but also their selves. The audience responds quite well Fists up, moshpit going on, totally living up to the moment and plenty of beer going around. This band works like a team and has their music full of energy to support them. They made a good show tonight, a performance that will be remembered and we’ll surely see this band back soon!

Last band of the evening was Red Fang. Probably a bit more open than Black Tusk, less energetic at first and building this tension up throughout the set. A little more time to breathe you could say. Sure, a moshpit came out pretty fast, the audience was all up for it, but somehow it did not come in as much as Black Tusk had done before. The fans seem to entertain themselves, shouting along with the lyrics and going crazy. Yet as a conclusion is drawn, Red Fang is musically more interesting. There is more going on and the focus on stage is not only there for the show. A nice show of this band that surely is the next big thing, Doornroosje was already a bit too small for them.
