The symphonic metal band Lunatica released their fourth album “New Shores”.
Lunatica comes from Switzerland, exist more then 10 years and they are now back with a new release. As the first impression of Lunatica comes from a few years back I found them always quite dreamy. Metal on a pink cloud. A lot of poppy sounds, coming from the sugar sweet voice of vocalist Andrea, make their music a point of discussion for those who love the more aggressive metal.
Some might consider it gothic metal, a reference to the new Nightwish is easily made, but Lunatica have been true to their selves all the time. It is what it is.
When it comes to “New Shores” there are some ballads that make the album quite calm. Sometimes a bit boring as well. As I personally appreciated their second album “Fable and Dreams” more, I found this a bit disappointing. But what irritated me most are the lyrics. It was flat and inspiration less. I have heard that better from them.
The album seems to be made in a rush, not really a good catch for their reputation. Even though I hoped it to be different, but I fear with this quality Lunatica will never be that big, big headlining band and always stand in the shadows of the ones who made the scene big.
