Zarpa is one of the rarest Spanish heavy metal bands. Since first appearance in 1977 the band released eight full-length albums. So in 2012 the world has chance to hear the ninth album “Las Puertas del Tiempo”.
My curiosity what would be heavy metal with Spanish lyrics was ultimate high. First chords remind of Finnish band “Popeda” (by the way created the same time) in the way you hear the native language too much melodic to heavy metal. What can I say? It’s worth every minute I was listening to the album!
The opening track “Rescatame” is a song that occupied your head after the first listening. You can’t refuse singing refrain “Ayudame, rescatame!”/ (Help me, rescue me!). Equipments’ solos, deep-throat singing, everything is old school heavy metal. The longest track is “Trovador“ with almost acoustic half further turned to electric version. Song in the way to be heroic anthem. Who knows what song about, perhaps someday someone translate it to English. Now it’s good in Spanish enough. The ballad “En Soledad” with deep feeling in solitude make the album classier. Sharp and polished production is golden bonus.
Killer riffs, killer voice, killer album. Esto es Heavy Metal/This is Heavy Metal!
