The Dears are a Canadian indie rock band from Montreal, Quebec.
Now this album is definitely a one of a kind! The Dears created some very interesting music for “Degeneration Street”. It took me a couple times listening through the album to fully grasp it and I am sure with each time listening I will discover more! The Dears combined rock music with some interesting and odd psychedelic sounding elements. The combination slightly reminds of She Wants Revenge or Expatriate, but quite a bit stranger. “Degeneration Street” contains music that is extremely hard to describe. One simply has to hear it to understand it. All in all the album is quite even, meaning no major ups and downs in the music as in fast pace versus extremely slow or any loud elements all the sudden. Which does not mean that the album is boring and monotone. That it definitely is not. “Degeneration Street” is simply even with its rock music. And from “Yesteryear” on the album gets a little faster but still not too much. I know this sounds quite boring, but this album does not need a lot of excitement in terms of slow music / fast music. The excitement of this album lies in the How the music is arranged. This keeps your mind busy enough and everything else would simply be too much. “Degeneration Street” by The Dears is a definite must check out! Interesting and unique. Rare! I absolutely fell in love with it.
