23-09-2023 Helsinki Techfest

Location: On The Rocks, Helsinki (Finland)

Helsinki Techfest has also a day two and an exciting lineup was awaiting us.

The first act of the day is Sirkuit Preiker. The music we get to hear is in Finnish and while some Finnish artists are master in bringing the message across in the passionate way they bring the words with this act it is a bit harder to grab what it is about if you do not speak the language. So for us this act was missing the weight a bit. What we liked about Sirkuit Preiker is the way the performance was set up. Some visual part helps to keep it interesting and with an engaging performance they still managed to keep us watching throughout the set.

Up next is the Finnish band Khroma. The formation has done several European tours, for example with Jinjer and The Agonist. Where the previous band was not playing for a full house yet, the venue was now filling up nicely and the band not wasting time to bring some energy into the audience. Song like “Tread Light” from their 2021 release “Ex Nihilo” are hitting well with the audience and a mosh pit starts to appear.

Khroma is a band that has an active show that comes in many dimensions and when you are ready to take all you are getting into it deep.
The band is scheduled to play at the showcase festival Lost in Music soon and perhaps near a venue near you anywhere in Europe. They are ready and eager to thrash your mind.

Balance Breach was stepping in when another band could not make it to the show. The guys were eager to hit the stage and the band has got themselves a good fan base already as it seems. The Metalcore formation crossed our paths before at the Tuska festival before covid. Remembering their charismatic performance we weren’t surprised to see something similar coming out today. Their front man communicates a bit with the audience and gives you the impression he sees each person individually. Yet in our review back then we had the tiniest remark that the balance with the music shouldn’t get lost so looking at we are happy to announce that this was checked off for the show off today. A well balanced set where the guys have enough space for the music to make its impact and they do not push that towards the background with the performance.

Hacktivist had a lot of bad luck in the weeks before the show. No drummer, injuries and missing instruments at the airport yet they still made it to the show. The Rap Metal formation from UK could have been met with disappoint but it was very much the contrary. With persistence to show they wouldn’t let it stop them, Finland was met with an eager bunch tonight. And when the energy is right, nice things happen. For Tempelores have seen many shows in Finland since 2006, these guys probably got themselves the wildest mosh going on. Whether it were the newest songs or a live classic like “Niggas In Paris” which they ended up playing twice as due to before mentioned reasons they had only been able to prepare limited tracks for their set.
Top class performance, an amazing closure of a festival that brought out so much energy here in Finland.
