Pintandwefall – Wow! What Was That, Baby?

Releasedate: October 2007; Label: GAEA Records
By: Elvira Visser

The bands date back to spring 2006 when four girls decided to form a band called Pintandwefall. The girls met at their secondary school in Vantaa, Finland. It all started out as a big joke. Playing an instrument they had never touched for a school competition. Their names remind me of the spice girls and might show that this band has some girl power. They call themselves Dumb Pint, Crazy Pint, Cute Pint and Though Pint. Their first album “Wow! What Was That, Baby” was released on 17 October 2007. They are currently working on a new album.

The band is all about mystery and spontaneous energy on stage. When you listen to this album I have to admit that it is not the best quality around but it has this energy and I expect the band to be better live. I think they need to be on stage, right in front of people. Their music is different it has weird compositions and what you might expect from a Finnish band the melancholy is nowhere to be found. The songs are about Jack White, sharks and aliens. Not all topics you might expect from a girl band.

As said the quality is not the best, it is a more a girl punk band having a good time with some rock ‘n’ roll influences. Their lyrics are quite crazy. “What Is Shark” does remind me of “Little Fish, Big Fish” from PJ Harvey. “X-box” was intended to have more dirty minded lyrics but they had to turn it into a more family version. Quite simple like: “I have an X-Box, you’ve got a Nintendo, but that’s a bit different yeah” but it somehow sticks to your head. And you will be singing it all day long. The “Jack White” song is quite funny, I can even hear The White Stripes in the music. The “Sex Song” is quite funny and hilarious. “Touch me now inside, I’ll do to you something you’d like.”

Somehow the songs does make you want to sing along and clap along, maybe even dance and I think when seeing them, they make sure they turn it into a great party. (make up for their vocal qualities?) Dressed up and hidden behind a mask, I wonder if they make fun of the audience. So, I think you should see this band live, I have never, but I just guess. Their music sounds as a lot of fun and enthusiasm which they cannot show on CD.
