21-01-2011 Too Tangled

Venue: Db’s, Utrecht (The Netherlands)
By: Sabine van Gameren

Too Tangled is a Belgian indie duo that recently brought their album “The Magic Got Killed” (review ) on the market. This evening was their Dutch release party.

When the band finally entered the stage, they had let the people wait for them quite long, there seemed to be little awkwardness around. The duo finds confidence in each other and that is what you can see in their stage performance here. They seemed quite shy in the start of the show, one hiding after the other.

After a few songs the stage was filled with smoke, the whole venue was, which made it hard to see the band, as well as the band could see the audience. Whether it was planned or not, it clearly had its effect cause they seemed to get more stable in their performance, taking more space to bring each ego to its max without losing the connection that is so strongly present between these two.

Besides the songs from their album, they also played a few that were not on there. In some songs they used the violin, an element that has an interesting add to the music and seem to stand out more than on their album. After one hour they left the stage with one song as an encore.

Too bad the venue was not really full, and this while the entry was free. Apparently the finals of a national talent show had kept a lot of music fans at home. Too Tangled had a calm start in The Netherlands, perhaps they could find some more confidence in themselves so their show sparks from the beginning till the end next time we run into them.
